The Iriomote, Ishigaki, and Taketomi trip was our first adventure from Okinawa, November 2005. We flew to Ishigaki and took a ferry to Iriomote. Iriomote is the largest island of the three but has a very low population. Most of the island is forest. We stayed in a traditional Japanese hotel and ate very traditional meals. We then took a ferry back to Ishigaki, home of Kabira Bay, where black pearls are cultured. We also took a ferry to Taketomi Island where the houses are traditional Ryukyu style and very few cars are allowed. We took a bike tour.
